Chesterfield Waterside

Chesterfield Champions were given a glimpse recently of the progress being made on the Grade A office accommodation currently under construction at Chesterfield Waterside.

Organised in conjunction with town’s inward investment marketing campaign, Destination Chesterfield, 40 representatives from the Champions network took a walking tour of One Waterside Place.

Peter Swallow, Managing Director of Bolsterstone Group and also Chair of Destination Chesterfield led the tour of the seven-storey 35,000 sq ft ‘Grade A’ office building, to be known as One Waterside Place.

Speaking on the tour, peter said: “One Waterside Place represents the first block of Grade A office space delivered in Chesterfield for a number of years. The availability of new larger floor plate office space is a critical requirement for Chesterfield’s commercial offer.

“One Waterside Place will seek to attract inward investment into the town from commercial occupiers, as well as aiming to provide relocation space for established local occupiers, and a suitable home for highly-skilled employees.

“Chesterfield’s central location and proximity to infrastructure is just one of the many benefits of this new building.

“This is city-quality office space and will allow employers to provide flexible and collaborative workspace in the post-Covid world which is seen by many as the future of the office market.”

Construction of the steel frame for the office block was completed by Britcon (UK) Ltd in July and it is now in the process of being clad in a brickwork skin.

Looking ahead, Peter said: “The office building is part of a wider commercial and residential offering in phase one of Basin Square. The next stages will see delivery of a hotel, multi-storey car park and build-to-rent apartments, which will be centred around the new canal basin and high-quality pedestrianised public realm.

“We will also deliver much anticipated leisure and retail space as part of these uses.”

One Waterside Place represents the first step in delivering the commercial element of the £340million Chesterfield Waterside scheme. It is part of the £75 million first phase of the Basin Square neighbourhood which is set around the new high quality public realm, the heart of which is the canal basin, and will comprise:

  • 310 Build to Rent apartments
  • A 400-space multi-storey car park
  • A 120-bed hotel
  • Retail and leisure units

Peter added: “The availability of new larger floor plate office space is a critical requirement for Chesterfield’s commercial offer and will seek to attract inward investment into the town from commercial occupiers, as well as aiming to provide relocation space for established local occupiers and a suitable home for highly skilled employees.”
