One Waterside Place has been showcased in a brand-new digital marketing campaign highlighting the diverse range of high quality office space available in Chesterfield which is helping the town capitalise on the ‘flight to prime’ trend for office space.
The campaign, which is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, has been developed by Destination Chesterfield is partnership with Chesterfield Borough Council and Derbyshire Economic Partnership.
One Waterside Place, the seven-storey office block which is part of the Basin Square neighbourhood at Chesterfield Waterside, features in the campaign alongside other major office developments including The Enterprise Centre and The Glass Yard.
Both One Waterside Place and The Enterprise Centre are due to be completed later this year and will bring more than 100,000 sq ft of additional office space to the town’s offering.
The pandemic has led businesses to reconsider the size, location, and design of offices. Companies are now looking for modern, quality workspaces that are flexible and provide good services and amenities. Quality is overtaking quantity, as it’s unlikely all employees will be in on the same days as they adopt a hybrid working from home /office model.
Despite the growth in popularity of working from home, surveys show that most office workers actually want to go back to an office — but only two or three days per a week.
A 2021 survey by CIPD, the professional body for HR and people development, found that 63% of employers planned to introduce or expand the use of hybrid working to some degree, combining time in the workplace with time at home, depending on the needs of the job, the individual and the team, and the team working practices.
Additionally, many large companies are now looking to move away from their single city centre HQs and, instead, implement a ‘hub and spoke’ office model – a network of smaller regional offices in well-connected locations.

One Waterside Place represents the first step in delivering the commercial element of the £340million Chesterfield Waterside scheme. It is part of the £75 million first phase of the Basin Square neighbourhood which is set around the new high quality public realm, the heart of which is the canal basin, and will comprise:
- 310 Build to Rent apartments
- A 400-space multi-storey car park
- A 120-bed hotel
- Retail and leisure units
Construction of the Grade A office accommodation is progressing well and tenants for a significant element of the available space have already been secured – BHP Chartered Accountants. Firm interest is also being shown by potential occupiers in the remaining space.
