Peter Swallow, Managing Director of Bolsterstone Group, the company behind the delivery of Chesterfield Waterside, has welcomed the ongoing investment in Chesterfield town centre.
Speaking in his role as the Chair of Destination Chesterfield, the borough’s marketing body, Peter said: “By installing the latest technology and improving accessibility, we will ensure we can continue to attract the highest quality entertainment and culture to our town, adding to Chesterfield’s vibrancy as a visitor destination.”
The comments came in his end of year blog on the Destination Chesterfield website in which it was revealed that almost £9million is to be spent on improving Chesterfield town centre in 2024, revamping the marketplace and key points of interest around the heart of the town. This is in addition to a £17million project to remodel and refurbish the Stephenson Memorial Hall – extending the Pomegranate Theatre and modernising Chesterfield Museum, which began in 2023. And in 2024,
Work on the town’s Theatre and Museum was brought forward following a funding commitment from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund.
Councillor Kate Sarvent, Chesterfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for town centres and visitor economy, explained: “This is a landmark building in our town and a place where generations of Chesterfield residents have created lasting memories. This project seeks to protect this building for the future but also enhance the visitor experience which will encourage more people to attend shows and visit our museum.”
In addition to town centre investment, 2023 has been a year of strong progress for Chesterfield’s property and construction sector, with many of the town’s major investment schemes reaching milestones.
The new large floorplate office space, One Waterside Place at Chesterfield Waterside, was opened in January 2023 and was fully occupied less than 12 months later. The Northern Gateway Enterprise Centre in the town has also seen success with 80% of office space let by its first anniversary.
A new mobile Construction Skills Hub was launched in 2023 to support skills in the construction sector by bringing forward the next generation of talent. Operating initially at Mastin Moor, the Construction Skills Hub aims to train 5,000 learners in Chesterfield and Staveley between now and 2030.
The Construction Skills Hub is an innovative scheme, which allows local learners to develop their skills in a live on-site centre, as well as providing a practical platform for construction training, careers activity and work experience.
2024 is set to be another year of progress for Chesterfield Waterside. With all 173 homes at Waterside Quarter now sold and 100% occupancy of One Waterside Place, the scheme’s flagship large floorplate office development, Bolsterstone is now turning its attention to the delivery of the hotel, residential and multi-storey car park elements surrounding the office block in Basin Square.
Peter added: “I am delighted with the excellent progress we have made at Chesterfield Waterside. Demand for what we have created so far is strong as developers see the massive potential of Chesterfield Waterside and the town as a whole.”
It is through its public/private partnership model that Bolsterstone is transforming cities and communities throughout the region, creating new places to live, work and invest. In addition to Chesterfield Waterside, current developments being brought forward by Bolsterstone, include West Bar in Sheffield, New Bolton Woods in Bradford and Moneystone Park in Staffordshire.
