Residents and businesses based at Chesterfield Waterside are set to benefit from the £10.28 million Revitalising the Heart of Chesterfield scheme, which will transform the look, feel and flow of the town centre.
Chesterfield Borough Council is asking residents and businesses, as well as those who work in the borough, to shape the final proposals for the ambitious town centre regeneration scheme.
People can now take part in an online consultation to have their say on an ambitious multi-million pound plan which will revitalise Chesterfield town centre.
The scheme forms part of a £26million package which includes £19.98m of Government funding through a successful bid to the national Levelling Up Fund last year. Chesterfield Borough Council has also contributed and additional £6million of funding.

The delivery of the improvement plan is expected to increase land value in the town centre by 16% and shop occupancy levels to more than 90%, resulting in increased spending which will support the creation of around 100 new jobs in the town centre.

The £10million Revitalising the Heart of Chesterfield scheme will deliver improvements to the town’s historic market, which will see the re-thinking of spaces in Rykneld Square, New Square and Market Square to allow them to be used for a wide range of events, celebrations and community gatherings. New paving, seating, lighting, street furniture and greenery will create updated spaces where people can socialise and dwell.
As part of the regeneration plans, Chesterfield’s ‘striking’ Grade 2 Stephenson Memorial Hall, which is home to the Pomegranate Theatre and Chesterfield Museum, is being reconfigured and modernised in a £16million project.
The refurbished Stephenson Memorial Hall will create a modern visitor attraction in the heart of Chesterfield. Bringing together an extended theatre, a reconfigured and modern museum, alongside new gallery space, a café bar, education and community facilities.
The theatre will close on Sunday 26 June ahead of the refurbishment works starting on Stephenson Memorial Hall.
