The summer is here and it’s the perfect time to explore in and around Chesterfield.
As well as the town’s venues, green spaces, plethora of independent food and drink establishments and market square, Chesterfield sits on the doorstep of the Peak District providing east access to a huge range of events taking place across Chesterfield and north Derbyshire. Your only problem will be deciding what to do!

3 August – LDN Wrestling, Winding Wheel Theatre
See the Superstars of LDN Wrestling for a night of rip-roaring action at the Winding Wheel Theatre in Chesterfield town centre. The show sees top wrestling stars from the World’s leading federations battling it out for the prestigious LDN British Championship.
3 August – Brook Explorers: Bug-hunting, Grassmoor Country Park
Join Don Catchment Rivers Trust (DCRT) for an afternoon of family-friendly bug hunting. Explore Grassmoor’s wildflower meadow and look for butterflies, bug and beasties!
4 – 25 August – Chatsworth Children’s Butterfly Walk
Children can enjoy a nature walk in the garden and have a go at potting up your own nectar-rich seeds in the Chatsworth Farmyard and Adventure Playground in the grounds of the historic Chatsworth House.
7 August – Renishaw Hall Plant Fair
Renishaw Hall and Gardens play host to a carefully selected range of specialist nurseries who stock a selection of some of the finest specimens to buy to brighten up your garden.
7th August – Jurassic Fun Day at Matlock Farm Park
Have a ROARing time learning about Rita the great T-Rex and several baby dinosaurs at outdoor shows throughout the day, see them wander the park to get up close for photos and maybe hop aboard the Jurassic themed bus for games and dig site fun.
14 August – Chesterfield Record Fair
With more than 40 traders from across the country selling records to suit every taste, vinyl lovers are in for a treat at Chesterfield Market Place.
17 August – Teddy Bears’ Picnic Cruise
You can bring your own picnic and, of course, teddy bear along to this cruise down the stunning Chesterfield Canal. The profits from all trips go towards the restoration of the last few miles of the canal.
19 August – Grown Up Games Night, Bolsover Castle
A special evening set aside for the big kids. Spend an evening in our beautiful walled orchard battling over bean bags and having a riotous game of rounders. It’s old school Sports Day fun for the adults only.
20 August – Professor Paul Temple’s Punch & Judy Show at Matlock Farm Park!
See a comedy take on this classic show. Pantomime fun, with lots of audience participation and tradition in one show, updated for the modern audience, with something to keep everyone laughing!
21 August – Royal London One-Day Cup – Derbyshire vs Yorkshire
A true derby day… Get out into Queen’s Park for what’s set to be a wonderful (hopefully sunny) day of cricket.
26 – 28 August – Barrow Hill Roundhouse Gala Open Day
Celebrate the 150th birthday of the UK’s last surviving operational railway roundhouse, with a special lineup of locomotives on display in the roundhouse and yard. Rail enthusiasts don’t miss out!
27 – 29 August – Legendary Joust at Bolsover Castle
Experience the exhilarating spectacle of speed and skill as four legendary knights compete for honour and glory in the Grand Medieval Joust. See lances shatter, feel the thunder of hooves and hear the roar of the crowd as reputations are won and lost.
28 August – Chesterfield Young Persons’ Market
Welcome to ages between 5 and 25, this is the perfect opportunity for the youngsters to experience life as a market trader for a day in Chesterfield. Or, if you prefer to buy rather than sell, come along for what’s sure to be a fun-packed day for the whole family.
28 August – 2022 Peak District Highland Games
See the country’s leading strongmen and mighty strongwomen compete in this hugely popular Peak District and Derbyshire annual event held at Matlock Farm Park.
