Chesterfield Waterside

Yet another of Bolsterstone Group’s projects has been nominated for a prestigious industry award; this time, it is the turn of Chesterfield Waterside.

One Waterside Place, the Grade A large floorplate office building located within the Basin Square character area of Chesterfield Waterside, has been shortlisted for the Regeneration and Restoration Project of the Year in the annual East Midlands Property Awards.

Insider’s Property Awards are the showcase for developments in the region. Alongside Bolsterstone Group, Chesterfield Borough Council, Chesterfield Waterside, Britcon, Turner & Townsend, Browne Jacobson, and South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority are all credited with delivering One Waterside Place.

In addition to One Waterside Place, Cadley Park in Swadlincote, Kirkby Leisure Centre in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Middleton’s in Worksop, The Condor and Springwell Square in Becketwell, Derby, and Nightingale Quarter in Derby, are all shortlisted for the award.

The winner of the Regeneration and Restoration Project of the Year, as well as the winners of 10 other categories, will be announced at a gala dinner on 7 September at the De Vere East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham.

This is the third consecutive month a Bolsterstone Group project has been shortlisted for a major award.

In June the £300 million West Bar scheme in Sheffield, which is being delivered by Urbo Regeneration, a company within the Bolsterstone Group,  was named as a finalist for the Deal of the Year – Commercial Property category at the 2023 Property Awards for the first phase of West Bar. Just a month later in July Urbo was shortlisted in the Property Deal of The Year category for West Bar in the prestigious South Yorkshire Property Awards.

Like Chesterfield Waterside, the West Bar masterplan combines large office floorplates with residential living. And like Chesterfield Waterside is transforming the north side of Chesterfield town centre which sits alongside the A61, West Bar will also regenerate a key part of Sheffield centre.

While the residential element of West Bar is yet to begin, it is well under way at Waterside with house builder Avant Homes having been on site since 2019 bringing forward 173 homes at Waterside Quarter. Demand for the properties has been strong with just two homes remaining for sale.

Further residential accommodation will be brought forward within Basin Square. In addition to One Waterside Place, the character area will also boast built-to-rent apartments, a hotel and multi-storey car park all centered around the newly created canal basin.

In May 2023, travel guide website enjoytravel.com named Chesterfield the best town in England to raise a family, and the second best in the UK, due to its affordable and appealing houses and excellent schooling options. Demand for homes in Chesterfield is strong, with data from Home.co.uk showing that residential properties in Chesterfield sell faster, on average, than in Sheffield, Nottingham and Derby.

Peter Swallow, Managing Director of Bolsterstone Group and Destination Chesterfield Chair, the organisation responsible for promoting Chesterfield as a place to live, work and visit, commented: “Chesterfield is a great place to live, particularly for families, who value the space, the schools and the town’s strong sense of community. Proximity to the Peak District makes it a popular location for home-working knowledge professionals who no longer have to commute daily into the UK’s biggest cities, while the central location and transport links make it a great place for people looking to build businesses.”

BHP and Varleys made the move to One Waterside Place at the end of 2022, however space still remains at the much sought-after business address in Chesterfield.

If you’re looking for a home for your business, one that sits next to Chesterfield Train Station and walking distance from Chesterfield town centre and offers premium office accommodation ideal for workers, commuters and visiting clients, then One Waterside Place is it.

One Waterside Place is home to more than 70 staff across BHP’s Personal and Corporate Tax, Healthcare, Audit & Accounts and Payroll teams providing them with state-of-the-art office facilities, breakout spaces, meeting rooms, a café/bar area, modern kitchen, LED lighting, air conditioning and cycle parking.

Dominic Staniforth, a partner at BHP which occupies a floor within One Waterside Place said: “One Waterside Place is superbly located and offers our people a great place to work, with an array of restaurants, cafés and shops on the doorstep.”
