Chesterfield Borough Council has named the Chesterfield Waterside scheme as one of its key projects in 2024.
Alongside the council’s Revitalising the Heart of Chesterfield scheme, the renovation of The Stephenson Memorial Hall and the Staveley Town Deal regeneration scheme, the £340milliom Chesterfield Waterside scheme is playing an important role in the brough’s growth strategy.
Led by Bolsterstone Group, the successful public/private regeneration scheme is transforming the A61 corridor with the creation of both residential and business developments.
2023 saw Chesterfield Waterside celebrate two major successes – the sale of all 173 homes at Waterside Quarter, which was developed by Avant Homes, and 100% occupancy of One Waterside Place, the scheme’s flagship large floorplate office development.
One Waterside Place, which represents Phase One of Chesterfield Waterside’s commercial neighbourhood, Basin Square. was funded by Chesterfield Borough Council.
Peter Swallow, Managing Director of Bolsterstone Group, said: “One Waterside Place has been a huge success for both Bolsterstone and Chesterfield Borough Council; it has been instrumental in setting new headline rents for office space in the town.
“I am delighted with the excellent progress being made at Chesterfield Waterside. Demand for what we have created so far is strong as developers see the massive potential of Chesterfield Waterside and the town as a whole.”
Bolsterstone has now turned its attention to the delivery of the hotel, residential and multi-storey car park elements surrounding the office block in Basin Square. Already significant interest has been shown and Bolsterstone envisages being able to take some elements to the next stage later this year.
In addition to the seven storey office accommodation, the £75 million Basin Square neighbourhood will also comprise 320 built-to-rent apartments, a 400-space multi-storey car park, a 140-bed hotel as well as retail and leisure units.
Basin Square will also provide a permanent home for the Dame Barbara Hepworth Rosewall sculpture (Curved, Reclining Form), which was purchased as part of the Percent for Art scheme which is run by Chesterfield Borough Council.
Purchase of the Grade II-listed sculpture ensured it remained in the UK. Prior to its purchase, the iconic sculpture was set to go to the US.
Peter added: “Rosewall will make an important centre piece for all residents, workers and visitors to Basin Square. The fact that the sculpture is now of Grade II listed status makes the move so much more special and I’m proud that we were able to keep it here in Chesterfield.”
