If you’re a keen cyclist or walker, then living at Chesterfield Waterside could be for you.
The development sits on the Trans Pennine Trail. Running right through the heart of the Chesterfield Waterside, the Trans Pennine Trail (TPT) is a 215 mile-long route for walkers, cyclists and horse riders linking the North and Irish seas.
With a north-south route connecting Leeds and Chesterfield, a spur to York and a spur to Kirkburton, there is around 370 miles of the trail to explore.
The Chesterfield spur of the trail includes six miles from Killamarsh to Staveley as well as five miles along the scenic Chesterfield Canal through to the town.
From its inception, Chesterfield Waterside was designed to encourage modern, green living, offering excellent amenities, including shops, markets, restaurants, bars and theatres in the nearby Chesterfield town centre, which is all accessible by foot or bike.
There are a range of benefits for opting to choose to get on your bike – here’s five:
1. Save money – Not having a car can reduce your monthly outgoings dramatically, especially if you have previously been paying monthly for the car itself. There’s no need for insurance, road tax or fuel, so the savings can be huge.
2. Help the environment – Choosing to cycle rather than drive benefits the environment massively. It cuts down on greenhouse gas emissions, reduces air pollutants, noise pollution, congestion and much more.
3. You’ll never get stuck in traffic – With the Trans Pennine Trail being mainly traffic free, you won’t be caught up in queues of cars when cycling. Travel in and out of Chesterfield Waterside with ease.
4. Increase health and fitness levels – Cycling out in the fresh air increases cardiovascular fitness, it’s great for muscle strength and it can reduce stress levels dramatically.
5. Enjoy your town – Chesterfield is a town filled with amazing scenery, especially along the canal, and that shouldn’t be taken for granted. Get out there and take it all in, enjoy your town!
If you’re thinking of tackling the Trans Pennine Trail, then make sure you sign up to the Trans Pennine Trail stamping scheme. Certificates are available for completing the trail from either Liverpool or Southport to either Hull or Hornsea or the full trail including the section from Leeds to Chesterfield. To qualify for these certificates, you need to collect stamps from participating locations across the trail using your TPT Stamping Card (included with any maps ordered and available online here). You can get your card stamped in Chesterfield at the Chesterfield Visitor Centre which is located close to the Crooked Spire church in the town centre.
Housebuilding at Chesterfield Waterside will start later this year following Avant Homes acquisition of a significant parcel of land where it will build 177 new houses. Discover more here
