With news that the government has reduced the two-metre social distancing rule in England to one-metre, means that Chesterfield’s recovery post pandemic could be further boosted by its proximity to the Peak District National Park.
In a recent Local Data Company (LDC) report, it has forecast that travel restrictions across America and Europe combined with the economic downturn and caution brought about by the global pandemic, will encourage local domestic travel as a safer and more viable alternative.
As people look to get their getaway fix this summer, it is expected that many will opt for a staycation, visiting towns and cities across the country as soon as it’s safe to do so.
With Chesterfield’s proximity to the beautiful Peak District t is anticipated that tourism numbers will grow this summer.
The Peak District is one of the UK’s most visited national parks and Chesterfield is on its doorstep. Already, tourism contributes more than £175 million a year to the Chesterfield economy.
Spanning around 555 square miles, the Peak District is easily accessible from Chesterfield town centre by car, bus, rail, bike or even on foot for keen walkers, making the town an excellent central location for holiday makers.
Getting to Chesterfield couldn’t be easier either. Its train station is one of the best-connected stations in the north Midlands which has enabled the town to attract some of the UK’s largest regeneration and leisure projects, like Chesterfield Waterside and PEAK Resort
