Chesterfield Waterside

Chesterfield has been named as the happiest place to live in the East Midlands in Rightmove’s annual Happy at Home Index.

21,000 residents were asked questions focusing on areas such as friendliness, green spaces and community spirit about the town and its communities. Their responses enabled the ambitious Derbyshire market town to take the top spot in the East Midlands, beating the major surrounding cities of Nottingham, Derby and Leicester.

Chesterfield was also ranked the 68th happiest place overall to live in Great Britain out of more than 200 towns and cities.

The survey results followed hot on the heels of news which revealed he town was featuring in the country’s top ten property searches on Rightmove, after seeing a surge of interest from home buyers looking to relocate near to commuter stations.

Data from the UK’s biggest property website Rightmove revealed that house hunter searches for Chesterfield station rose by 30% from June to August 2021 – the seventh biggest increase in the country. The demand from home buyers is reflected at Waterside Quarter, the residential neighbourhood at Chesterfield Waterside.

Leading housebuilder Avant Homes is currently onsite building 173 new 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes. Demand for the homes is “consistently high” with a number already occupied by residents.

Peter Swallow, Managing Director of Bolsterstone Group, the company leading the £340million Chesterfield Waterside scheme, said: “The recent RightMove data is pleasing but not surprising. We have long known and appreciated the town’s connectivity. It is this which has been fundamental in the borough attracting more than £1 billion worth of construction projects which are currently underway.

“Chesterfield’s mainline rail station serves the town well. As Sheffield house prices have increased to a level which challenges affordability, the market in Chesterfield, being just 10 miles away by train from the UK’s fourth largest city, is benefitting.

“Having this station puts London St Pancras just 1hr and 50 mins away, and Nottingham just 40 minutes away which is ideal for commuters. The reality of this is you can get to central London by rail from Chesterfield in the same amount of time it takes someone to commute from 30 miles away!”

A total of 1200 homes will be built on 16-hectare Chesterfield Waterside site, including 310 one and two bed Built to Rent apartments at Basin Square. The apartments will neighbour One Waterside Place, the Grade A office accommodation that is currently under construction. Occupiers have already been secured for part of the seven storey office building however, floor space remains to accommodate requirements from 2,500 – 15,000 sq ft.

With both the residential and commercial elements underway, Chesterfield Waterside is already becoming the ultimate destination to live, work and play.
